First of all and before anything I’m a farmers’ son! I was born and raised on a mixed dairy – arable farm in Rockanje, near Rotterdam in the southwest of the Netherlands. I have a BSc degree in Tropical Agriculture and in 2008 I obtained my MBA-degree at Nyenrode Business Universiteit – The Netherlands.
I have not lost track of my agricultural roots since most of my work experience is related to agriculture, primarily with farmers organisations in Latin America and Africa though I am also privileged to have “real” farming experience in the Netherlands. Since 2002 I work at Agriterra, for many years as a liaison officer for clients in Latin America and Africa and since 2011 as manager of the agribusiness team. Next to my core responsibilities at Agriterra I chair and/or facilitate events, workshops, trainings and clinics, which I love doing. Parties I have done this for are among others the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, LTO Noord, ILO, NCR and Agriterra.
I have one beautiful daughter, already 10 years old, and I am happily married to Wybren. I am a slow (but perseverant!) runner with a personal marathon record of 4h18. Both in private as well as in professional life my basic attitude is down-to-earth, creative, to-the-point, committed, extrovert, persistent, outspoken and with good social and networking skills.
